Re: Arch Linux - 802.1x

You MIGHT be able to do it with netcfg, Arch's own network manager: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Netcfg

That looks like it'll only work on Debian-like systems (maybe others, not sure).  Arch's network configuration lives in /etc/rc.conf, and there's more manual configuration required to get wpa_supplicant running as needed, as Jake and Dan noted earlier.

Hello,

If you want to do this without the NetworkManager user interface, you can do this:

1. /etc/network/interaces should include the following:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
       wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
       wpa-driver wired

2. /etc/wpa_suppplicant.conf should include the following:

ap_scan=0
network={
       key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
       eap=PEAP
       identity="mtu id"
       password="mtu pass"
       eapol_flags=0
}

3. Make sure to replace identity and password with your info.

4. Restart computer (or just networking) and see if you have an IP and connectivity on the interface.

P.S. Can't guarantee that these are all the necessary steps, but I have this setup working on my server/router. Let me know if this doesn't work, I could dig further.

Also: Make sure you have wpa supplicant program installed.

Warren,

Are you using any desktop environment like Gnome? I know that ITSS has Ubuntu directions, which would work for Gnome. But I'm sure there are others here who have it working on Arch.

Hello,

I recently installed Arch Linux onto my laptop and have been able to connect to a wired network after previous installations on other networks without problems but am having trouble connecting to MTU's. Any help that may be offered?
