Need Some Javascript Help

Dear Javascript Ninjas,

For quite sometime now, I have been trying to
accomplish a javascript based navigation [just
the 'next' and 'previous' links] to appear on
top of images in my photoblog. A good working
example of this could be:

  http://www.sirius2photo.com/photo/index.php?showimage=194

I know it [possibly] uses scriptaculous libray
but can't seem to wrap my head around it yet.
Can someone please point me in the right
direction? I would like a similar effect for
my pictures, say

  http://sgowtham.net/showcase/2009/10/10/10/37/38/fall-foliage-with-a-topping-of-snow
