Hello everyone! My company makes automotive products that run Linux. We have a full-time position that just came open for someone with Linux experience compiling the kernel and modifying drivers. We have traditionally offered products to the OEMs, but ...
The forum is back to it's old self, despite a mess of things that really didn't like the conversion from apache1.3/mysql4/php4 on a p2, to apache2/mysql5/php5 on dual Athlons. Enjoy!
Sounds like the better approach would be to keep /usr/portage/distfiles on a normal filesystem, but whip up a cron job to keep tabs on it's size and remind you to remove stuff every so often?
What are the CFLAGS that you use in your /etc/make.conf for portage? Why did you chose the CFLAGS that you did? What were you results?
The sizes look pretty reasonable, but yes, reiserfs isn't nesecarily the best choice. I'm a fan of XFS; ext3 is also good.
Souds like you should have plenty of space for /tmp, but... is /usr/portage/distfiles normally a temp dir that can be ...
I don't know if this is good or not but it hasn't caused any problems so far. My worst choice may have been the filesystem (reiserfs)
A laptop with a 74GB Hard Drive and 1 GB of RAM
30 GB for windows since I dual boot
100 MB &...
For the most part, the best way to go for a normal desktop system is:
* a small (100mb) /boot partition
* 1.5*RAM size for swap.
* everything else in one big / partition
If you're running it as a shell server or some other sort of multi-user env...
What is the best partitioning/filesystem scheme for a machine running Gentoo? Does it depend on what it is used for? Does it depend on what type of machine it is on, hard drive size, RAID, etc?
