But your computer is getting an ip address? ifconfig shows an ip
address?

The file with all your networking setup info is 
/etc/network/interfaces 

You can check and see if that got messed up somehow.

netstat -rn
will show the default routes on your machine which can be used to verify
that stuff is getting set up correctly.

Since you are getting errors it is possible the card is going bad and
linux has noticed it before windows did. Or the network cable could be
flakey.
