Not to turn this into a systemd thread, but I think a lot of the hate
really comes from the fact that a certain large project's dependency on
systemd turned it into Hobson's Choice. Since everyone involved is
intelligent enough to realize that the "choice" they have doesn't
actually exist, they resent this.

Now of course, officially this dependency doesn't exist (there is an
alternative) but everytime a distro switches this dependency is the
reason they do so. The alternative is not something any of them want
to resort to. There are plans for this dependency on systemd to expand
in the future, what alternatives will exist in those expansions are unknown.

This leaves everyone who doesn't even run this certain large project
with the feeling that they are being taken along for the ride without
any real say in the matter. One large project effectively made the
choice for everyone.

As for me I run:
* 1 box with systemd
* 3 boxes with upstart
* 5 boxes with sysvinit
* 0 boxes with openrc

I really don't give a shit, I don't find it necessary to interact with
my init daemon often enough to care what it is. If I had a gentoo box
I'd have a 1 next to openrc too.
