You might want to try this: http://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/home I've never personally used it - so I can't vouch for it, but it looks easy to use. As long as you're able to boot to the usb, this should take care of everything else. Note - you might want to plug your laptop into an ethernet cable during installation. You may have better luck, but I had to research/download/compile drivers for my wireless network interface card. --
