Re: An Idea
Sounds like an effort in futility to create a distro for such a small group... Nobody would use it, and fewer would care. Also, if you are just changing the default package set just release a metapackage that pulls in all the stuff you want, that is about all this "distribution" would have different from default ubuntu.

Why?
It could be cool if it was a branded LiveCD to help with adoption, though. I don't understand why you'd want to build it from scratch; maintaining your own package repository is difficult (though it could be a fun exercise). Keeping up to date with security updates might be even less fun.

Hey guys,
A friend of a friend of mine told me earlier that LUG should have it's own Linux Distro. I had to agree! So, I decided I would try making one. It will most likely be based on Ubuntu and will have all the CS and Math programs that a student would need (and of course some programs you would want too). If you want to help out, here are some of the things I'm gonna need:
• An awesome MTU themed background (maybe more than one?)
• An MTU themed plymouth theme (an image file will do, I'll do the rest for that)
• Any program suggestions
• A name? (Besides MTU Linux or LUG Linux)
• Any other ideas for features
If it sounds like a good idea to you guys, we could host this on the LUG server. Let me know what you guys think. :)
