Re: computer advice
I agree: if students know exactly what they want, it won't be too hard to find.
If students want service/repairs from a shop in Houghton, they could go
to Next Century Computing. It's in the MarketPlace building
downtown.
They do claim to deal in HP and Compaq brand-name, but they also have
the resources to custom-build stuff. And for someone who wants a custom
box, they can probably sit down and describe the options that are
available.
I don't work for them, but I do know the boss pretty well...

My opinion is that if you know EXACTLY what you want, or know how to put
one together yourself, you probably already know where to go (Like
TigerDirect, NewEgg, etc.) and what to look for.
It's the people who don't know what they want, or how to build their own
that tend to ask these questions. Unless some enterprising student wants
to build computers for his classmates, I'd just as soon send them to
Dell/HP. It's fairly simple, and their customer service isn't too
horrible. (usually)

PS: On second thought, tell them to buy HP computers in Ashland, WI. Send
me business. :)
