- OpenStreetMap started as a way to map private buses in the UK
- Entirely open source
- Community-built, anyone can edit
- Online web editor
- Java OpenStreetMap Editor (JOSM)
- JOSM shows more advanced data, is more complex
- Can automatically fetch data like addresses
- Android Clients (all offline)
- OsmAnd
- CoMaps
- Organic Maps
- Various other ways to view the map
- OnTheGoMap
- API is free
- StreetComplete
- App that marks unfinished data as "quests"
- Meant to encourage completion of the maps
- Michigan is the only state in the US that doesn't allow you to get addresses through JOSM
- Google Maps can't be used to contribute due to licensing, try to get your data legally
- LOTS of things to be added, and its very easy to do so
