This is bad practice because cables inevitably get re-used without being physically re-labelled and thus that "mirrors" cable may ""temporarily"" be used for, say, Shell, and remain that way for years, until some poor sysadmin comes along and pulls the wrong cable due to the mislabelling.
 
Each cable is labelled per it's type ('''E'''thernet, '''F'''iber, '''P'''ower) then given a unique numeric number (ex. "E101").
 
IDs should always increment upward, do not reuse old cable IDs on new cables (except when rolling over back to 000001, if it becomes necessary).
