How to reset the password on one of the D-Link DES-3624 (aka Marconi ES-1200) switches we obtained from MTU Telcom years ago:

  1. Setup TFTP on a machine and place these two files in it des-3624-default.bin des-3624-default.cfg
  2. Connect a serial cable to the switch
  3. Access the switch's boot menu by pressing Ctrl+C after POST.
  4. Setup the IP settings
    1. Do not use BOOTP/DHCP if your BOOTP/DHCP server isn't also your TFTP server, use manual in that case.
  5. Setup the "Update firmware and configuration" settings
    1. Enable config updates and put des-3624-default.cfg as the filename.
    2. Do not press reboot on this screen, go back to the main menu
  6. Save the configuration
  7. Reboot

You should see your switch download the config file from TFTP and when its done, the box will be reset to the factory defaults. The factory default username and password are both blank.

Note: I swear there was an easier way to do this, but techieb0y says this is the only way to do it.
