Hey everyone, sorry I missed the meeting tonight, I was
working on installing Debian 3.0. I’ve never installed any distro on my own, and I know that debian
is not really a newb distro,
but I wanted to give it a shot. I’ve
installed it as a dual boot system using lilo and
that works fine. The rest of the
installation works and I can boot into debin. I’ve ran into a few problems
though. When going through the
installation I only installed (X window system and C and C++) using tasksel. I want
to use enlightenment, but don’t know exactly how to get it up and
running. Do I need to install gnome first?
I used the nv XFree86 drivers since I have a nVidia geForce3.
My second problem is that I can’t get my Ethernet card to work. I have a Netgear
FA310TX card, which I found online uses the tulip driver. The card seemed to install fine. When it asked for a host name I used
(nick) which is what I told resnet, and I put
resnet.mtu.edu in for the domain name, then all the proper IP, subnet, gateway,
and name servers. Once I finished
the installation I logged in as root and tried to ping my roommates computer
which didn’t work, so I tried using ifconfig to
see if anything was even there, and there was all the proper stuff there for
eth0. I am sort of stuck right now,
no window manager and no Ethernet L. Any help would be great, even some
online resources I could read. Oh
by the way, I followed the installation guide at www.aboutdebian.com/install3.htm
and used all the selections which they suggested. |
