New sound card

I'm looking to buy a new sound card sometime soon, so I'm looking for
recommendations. Above all, I want it to be compatible with Linux - I
don't want to go through hell every time I install a new distro. I'd like
5.1 support if I can get it, but it's not absolutely necessary. I'm aiming
for $50 or less, but I can spend more if I need to.
