Internet Protocol. Specifies addressing at [[layer 3]]. Usually used in conjunction with [[TCP]] and [[UDP]].
 
Currently, two forms are available.
 
IPv4 is the most common, with a 32-bit addressing space.
IPv6 deprecates IPv4, although adoption is slow. IPv6 uses a 128-bit addressing space, and includes autoconfigureation and IPSec.
