Re: firmware update

So one guy doesn't recommend it. When I multiply the value of that recommendation by the value of trust I attribute to "Sum Gai" (that's zero) I get a zero in my recommendation influence column. Maybe his recommendation means more to all of you. This is one person giving recommendation, with reasons behind that recommendation. Everyone should qualify their recommendations thus. But yeah, the signatures may be problematic when you include the rest of the email.

Regardless of which OS I'm running, Liteon is still my favorite burnable

And all this at a reasonable price. Also, I have had good luck with
several of their drives; it's all a matter of compatibility.

While it's sad that they havn't released firmware for linux, it's also not
unreasonable for them to refuse to release their source code. After all,
they created the software; they have the right to choose what to do with
it. (This has nothing to do with my stance on open source or closed; it's
just like politics. One side should not force their opinion on the other;
everyone should make their own choice) Besides which, it's probably their
company policy to not release it; I doubt either the engineers or the
gentleman you communicated with are in a position to make that sort of
decision.

Sean,

It is with great regret then, that I need to inform you and everyone
else
that uses Linux at Michigan Technological University to not ever
purchase
another Liteon drive. Since your company provides such lack-luster
support of all users of your product, I cannot in good faith recommend
the
purchase of another Liteon drive.
